DNS is optionally automatically setup when a new site or a new alias is created. Assuming you have your nameservers pointed to ns1.stackable.com and ns2.stackable.com, a DNS entry will need to be created for your site so it resolves properly. If your domain's nameservers are not pointed to Stackable's nameservers, you will need to manage your DNS with your current nameservers.
Prerequisites
Quick start
Once a site has been created in the control panel, a DNS entry will need to be made for your site before your domain name will resolve properly. There are two main steps to this: 1) making the global DNS record (e.g., domain.com not www.domain.com) and pointing it to your site IP address, and 2) make a CNAME record to point to the global DNS record (e.g., point www.domain.com to domain.com). This way both domain.com and www.domain.com will both resolve your web site correctly.
To do this:
- Click MORE TOOLS in your control panel
- Click DNS MANAGER
- In the DNS Manager, choose MANAGE A DOMAIN
- A prompt will ask you for a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). Type in the site domain name (domain.com, not www.domain.com)
Creating the Global A record
- Click CREATE RECORD
- Enter your domain name (i.e., domain.com, not www.domain.com) in the 'Host' field
- Set the 'Type' to 'A'
- Enter the IP address of your site in the 'Content' field, which can be found on the IP manager (see IPs and IP Manager fore more info)
- Click SAVE
Creating the www CNAME record
- Click CREATE RECORD
- Enter 'www' in the 'Host' field
- Set the 'Type' to 'CNAME'
- Enter the @ character in the 'Content' field
- Click SAVE
